BIG SCREEN ENTERTAINMENT AT THE REGENT PAHIATUA
We are a community owned & operated cinema situated in the upstairs auditorium of the Pahiatua Regent Theatre .Opened by Kerridge Theatres 75 years ago on 23 February 1940 and now owned by the Pahiatua Repertory Society Inc., we are one of three cinemas operating in the Wairarapa/Tararua region. We are the only cinema in the Tararua District and the only cinema between Masterton & Waipukurau. We are a Registered Charity, with a part-time manager, staffed by volunteers. We have one 8.5 metre full CinemaScope screen & seat 113 with stadium style seating and wheelchair access. We screen every Thur Fri Sat & Sun with extra sessions during school holidays & when needed.
We have a fully automated Christie Solaria CP2215 Digital projection system with a Doremi Showvault server holding 2 terabytes of storage. We can also screen in & DVD/Blu-ray formats or via a laptop. We have a Volfoni Infra-red, active-shutter 3D system . Our Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound system has assistive listening via wireless stereo headphones for patrons with impaired hearing.
Both the Upstairs Cinema and the Downstairs Theatre are available for private bookings, hiring and fundraiser events.
In August 2011 we launched a successful fundraising project to completely refurbish our cinema auditorium and to upgrade our projection system to digital. Comfortable new seats were installed and the walls lined with acoustic panels and drapes, which improves not only the appearance but also greatly improves the digital sound quality. Also, thanks to a very generous grant from the Waireka Community Trust we can now offer patrons with a disability or in a wheelchair or mobility scooter easy and safe access to our upstairs auditorium via a lift from the cinema foyer. In December 2014 we were granted funding of $80,000 from the Central Energy Trust which enabled us to go ahead with the transition to a fully compliant DCP 3D digital projection system. All screenings are now in full high definition digital format.
The process of fund-raising for up-grading the auditorium is continuing.
If you would like to find out more about our on-going up-grade project or you would like to support this project, or join our volunteers group please email us at: email@example.com or phone the manager on 06 376 8441.
